•• Local Cumbria artists top the bill for round three of Carlisle Fringe Festival ••

Out of 90 events taking place across the city, over 60% of artists appearing at the summer event hail from Cumbria!

The festival, which recently launched its 2018 events programme, highlighted a selection of Cumbrian based talent that’s set to take centre stage at the festival.

A free-to-view open air music stage will present 5 full days of non-stop music from UK bands, local musicians and groups from all across the region.

The Black Guards are one of the various artists appearing from West Cumbria, who are gearing up for their first appearance at the festival on Friday 24th August, alongside first timers, Wolfpeake. Reptilians, Mustangz Trio and also Cumbrian punk rock band No Thrills, who return to the festival for their second time.

The Black Guards, said: “It’s a great time to be in and around Carlisle with the Fringe in full swing, revellers delighting in the abundance of local creative talent buzzing from p the arts & music community dotted around the city.”

The open air music stage is one of the newest additions for 2018, and is one of three new entertainment venues appearing at the Festival Village, set to transform the city centre in August.

Other venues include a new ‘Container Theatre’ and a licensed bar, which will run for the duration of the festival.

The Container Theatre welcomes Cumbrian theatre makers, practitioners and comedians from across the county, alongside some of the UK’s best entertainers.

Jane Postlethwaite from Kirkby-in-Furness is one of the festivals highly anticipated comedy events. The multi-award finalist Cumbrian comedian presents her own 5-star show, Made in Cumbria in the container theatre on 25th August at 9pm.

Jane Postlethwaite said: “I’m really looking forward to bringing my comedy character show, ‘Made in Cumbria’ to Carlisle Festival especially as it’s a new and local festival. It’s really important that we have more art related events taking place in Cumbria so I’m glad it can be part of it.”

“I’m hoping the festival will inspire people to come out with their friends to support local artists. I think it’s offering something that the area has needed for a long time and I am sure it will go from strength to strength. I know this festival is going to make a lot of people happy!”
