High Tea started back in 2014, and has since become one of our favourite events of each festival. Featuring our Ladies of Distinction (& Gentlemen), the event is a trip down memory lane set in the beautiful atmosphere of the Loreburn Hall.

The project has been focused on remembering the past which we have achieved through a variety of different projects, most of which has led to the High Tea project which runs as part of the Festival each year.

High Tea is about immersing in the cultural memories of the past, and over the last few years we have developed it as a signature piece in the Spiegeltent which is delivered in a very slow and unhurried way.  As a result the project has become very popular with health based groups working who work with older people, or groups working with neurodiversity.

Remembering You – was a piece of war time drama created by a group from Dumfries Community Choir who would later become the driving force of the project.   The most amazing part of High Tea is it is organised entirely by volunteers.

The performance offers a relaxed atmosphere, and is perfect for older members of the community, including care homes and community groups who maybe aren’t too keen on a busy, loud environment. The show allows us to engage with care homes in Dumfries and Galloway, and Cumbria, and we support these organisations from the moment they want to book their tickets, to the moment they leave the event.

Over the years, we’ve had a variety of guest artists over the years, including Robyn Stapleton,  Claire Hastings,  John Caskie, Ulriche Stork, Emily Smith, Jamie McLennan, Grant Dinwiddie, Ho-Ro, Robbie Huxtable and even a chap called Hamish the Haggis.

We have curated many editions of the event over the years, including A War-Time edition with Vera Lynn, Marlene Dietrich

Recently we even created a special Glenn Miller Orchestra event.

Part of the unique charm of the Spiegeltent has allowed us to serve delicious cakes, scones and tray bakes from old Scottish recipe books, washed down with heavily strained tea and a dashing of the old time tunes that help us remember Scotland of old.
