Dumfries Community Choir is launching a new free music project for young singers through their Youth Choir project which is being piloted over three sessions on between the 18^{th of} April and 25^th May.

The project is being tested ahead of the programme launch in September, and interested young people are encouraged to attend these taster sessions in April and May.

Dumfries Community Choir was set up in 2011, and have played at events throughout Scotland, including welcoming the Olympic Torch to Dumfries as well as singing for royalty and appearing at Edinburgh Castle.

The New Youth Choir project will work on new music covers as a group and will work towards public performance

The Choir is under the direction of Gary Cameron who is one of Scotland’s leading composers for TV, Film and Theatre and is part of the Big Burns Supper group.

Gary has produced for the BBC, National Theatre of Scotland and is in hot demand throughout Scotland as a voice specialist.   He has been with Dumfries Community Choir since the choir re-opened since lockdown.

“This is an exciting opportunity for us to uncover the next generation of talent and uncover the future of music in Dumfries.   You don’t have to audition, and we focus on contemporary pop music like Harry Styles and Sia.  Come along and give us a try and we will give your voice a good work out”

The Youth Choir runs at the Loreburn Hall from 4pm to 5.30pm and you can book your place here.

Adults who are interested in joining a choir can head along at 6pm every Tuesday at the Loreburn Hall.  Membership is open to anyone who wants to sing, and you are not asked to sing on your own.
