Free Activities this Christmas Holidays

From Glasgow Street, to Lochside Road – Georgetown and Locharbriggs. Everyone is invited to make a lantern for the Parade. The highlight of these events is the lantern-making workshops, where children and families can create their own lanterns in preparation for the Dumfries Carnival lantern procession on January 18th, 2025.

Hamish the Haggis aims to have 2,000 lanterns ready for this spectacular event. Each event will feature a unique lineup of free activities and entertainment, including live music, poetry, storytelling, and children’s games such as musical bingo and a colouring competition.

30th December – Dumfries Ice Bowl

12pm – 6.30pm

Free Skating Sessions: 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM and 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM (Registration required)

Activities: Lantern-making, live music, poetry, storytelling, musical bingo, colouring competition.

3rd January – Jolly Harvester

3pm – 8pm

Activities: Lantern-making, haggis drive, live music by Ben and Thomas from the Lutras, meet Hamish the Haggis, and lots more family entertainment.

5th January – Queen of the South Arena

10am – 4pm

Activities: Lantern-making, live music, poetry, meet the mascots, colouring competition, ‘glow in the dark football’ (Registration required)

6th January – Dumfries Baptist Church

11am – 3pm

Activities: Lantern-making, poetry, singing, story telling, meet Hamish the Haggis

11th January – YMCA Lochside

10am – 4pm

Activities: Lantern-making, ceilidh music, bingo, country swing band, meet Hamish the Haggis

11th January – Debenhams

Activities: A coming together of cultures, Lantern making, Children’s creative area , Live multi-cultural performances, World Street Food to sample

12th January – The Lochar Inn

10am – 4pm

Activities: lantern-making, live music, poetry, prize bingo, ceilidh music, a quiz, and a chance to meet Hamish the Haggis.
