As part of the relaunched Big Burn Supper, Dumfries Carnival will be returning to this part of Dumfries. The last time we staged it here was in 2017. This time, to help the local economy get the most out of the carnival, we’re extending the event for three days

So as well as the Parade at 5pm on Saturday 18th January, we will also be hosting lots of pop-up activity throughout the town centre to really give us all a boost post-Christmas, with lots of free and exciting things for children and families. This will also include a project called Northern Lights which we will be piloting for the first time.

We are scoping the idea of a pop up market with a few fun fair rides on Castle Street during that period. This would run until 10pm at night.

In order for us to deliver this project, this will require us to make road closures in this area on Carnival day itself. It would require us to close the roads on the Friday to facilitate events set up on Friday morning as well as activity on the Friday night, which we know is disruptive.

We’ve looked around Dumfries for a place to do this, but because the Parade takes up a lot of roads, we feel that Castle Street would be the best place for us to do this.

Big Burn Supper is an organisation which is rooted in our community, created by Doonhamers, and we want to be very clear that this is not an idea we want to do without hearing your voice. We genuinely want to seek your engagement as part of the event design.

We’ve included a link to a survey and we would ask you to complete this survey over the next week to give us an understanding of what impact this would have on you and whether there is an appetite for us to do this.

This survey is exclusively for residents and businesses in the Castle Street area. You can complete this survey here

If you have any questions about this survey or the idea that we’ve got, please email me directly and I would be delighted to have a chat or a coffee with you about our idea.
