We are looking for music creators who want to be part of our new project which will explore immersive performance experience right here in Dumfries & Galloway. The finished work will form part of Northern Lights 2026.

You will work alongside our Head of Music (Gary Cameron) who is one of Scotland’s leading composers for stage.   You will work collaboratively score a new work which will form part of a soundtrack to an outdoor event which will run in January.

Sessions will take place at our base at 70 High Street, Dumfries and will run from 10am to 4pm each day.

There will be four sessions running in November and you will receive a bursary of £350 to support your participation in the project, or to support out of pocket expenses.

We are offering spaces for 6 talented music producers to come and work with us.  You would need to be available on the following dates.

• Thursday 6^th November
• Friday 7th November
• Wednesday 12^th November
• Thursday 13^th November

 Please note if you are still at school, we are unable to pay a training bursary but we will cover travel expenses. 

This opportunity isn’t just for young people, anyone with an interest in music technology or composition.

Course contents

• Interface and workflow: Learn to navigate Logic Pro’s main window, including the tracks area, mixer, and editors.
• Audio and MIDI tracks: Understand the difference between the two main types of tracks and how they are used for recording.
• Essential editing: Grasp basic editing techniques like cutting, copying, and arranging audio and MIDI regions.
• Navigation and organization: Use essential keyboard commands and learn project organization techniques, such as track stacks and colour coding.
• Project management: Set up new projects, manage the various files, and properly save your work.

• Arrangement: Explore common song structures and learn how to use Logic’s built-in tools to construct a basic arrangement.
• Beat-making: Use the Drummer plugin or Drum Machine Designer to create realistic and dynamic drum patterns.

• Virtual instruments: Use Logic’s built-in synthesizers (like Retro Synth) and samplers to create your own sounds.
• Effects and plugins: Discover how to use essential effects like EQ, compression, reverb, and delay to enhance your tracks.
• Basic mixing: Learn fundamental techniques for balancing track levels and applying effects to create a cohesive mix.
• Automation: Get an introduction to automation to create movement and dynamic changes throughout your song.
• Exporting: Prepare and export your finished composition in the correct format
