The Festival will present two shows supported by the Creative Sparks fund, and is available to students, recent graduates or emerging artists living in Carlisle.
The commission, worth £2000 will support you to design and create a performance that will be premiered during the Festival. The commission will support the creative delivery with £1000 in cash investment for production and £1000 for the technical support to your show.
If successful, the commission will also support the rehearsal process with 1-month of free rehearsal space prior to the performance(s) at the Festival, which is support by The University of Cumbria.

This fund demonstrates the collaborative working between Carlisle Fringe, Carlisle City Council and Cumbria University to help bridge cultural opportunities to help performing arts live and work in this vibrant northern city.’’
The Commission welcomes artists looking to present work from various artistic backgrounds, ranging from comedy, theatre, dance, physical theatre and children’s work.
Those successful in applying will also be supported in the development of their work by award winning theatre company, Electric Theatre Workshop, producers of Carlisle Fringe Festival, Big Burns Supper and Le Haggis.
They will also invite you to attend three exclusive masterclasses covering, Creating to Connect, Producing and Marketing & Digital Promotion.

The festival, which is in its third year, will present a 10-day non-stop entertainment programme of comedy, music, theatre, and cabaret running from the 24th August – 2nd September in various venues across Carlisle.
This Commission is in partnership with The University of Cumbria and is delivered by Electric Theatre Workshop.

- £1000 towards technical management and resource
- 1-month free rehearsal space at the University of Cumbria (Brampton Road Campus)
- PR and marketing support, inclusion in brochures, website, social media activity
- Ongoing development opportunities – we are keen that the commissions are the beginning of a long term relationship with the artist’s support, and we’ll do what we can to help you develop your work further
