Join Our Board

Trustee Recruitment – Closing Date: 31 March 2026

The Role of a Trustee

Trustees play a vital role in providing strategic oversight, governance and advocacy for the organisation. Working collectively as a Board, you will:

  • Support the development of our long-term vision and strategy
  • Ensure strong governance and financial oversight
  • Champion our values, including equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Act as an ambassador for the organisation
  • Support and challenge the senior leadership team constructively

This is a voluntary role, but it is also an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on culture and community in our region.

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome expressions of interest from individuals who are enthusiastic about the arts, community wellbeing and cultural development.

We are particularly interested in people who bring experience in areas such as:

  • Finance or accountancy
  • Fundraising or income generation
  • Legal expertise
  • Marketing and communications
  • HR and organisational development
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Community engagement
  • Public sector or policy experience
  • Business owners

However, previous Board experience is not essential. We value diverse perspectives, lived experience and fresh thinking just as highly as professional expertise.

We are committed to improving the diversity of our Board and strongly encourage applications from individuals who are currently under-represented in the cultural sector, including people from minority ethnic backgrounds, disabled people, LGBTQ+ communities, and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds.

Time Commitment

  • Approximately 4–6 Board meetings per year
  • Occasional sub-group meetings or strategy sessions
  • Attendance at key events where possible
  • Meetings are primarily held in Dumfries & Galloway, with hybrid options available where appropriate.

Why Join Us?

  • Play a key role in shaping one of Scotland’s most distinctive cultural organisations
  • Support work that boosts community wellbeing, pride and participation
  • Gain governance experience within a respected arts charity
  • Work alongside a committed and creative Board and staff team

How to Apply

If you are interested in becoming a Trustee, we would love to hear from you.

Please send:

  • A short expression of interest (no more than 2 pages) outlining why you would like to join the Board and what you would bring
  • A brief CV or summary of relevant experience to justinhyslop@yahoo.co.uk

📅 Closing date: 31 March 2026

For an informal conversation about the role, please contact Justin Hyslop for an informal chat by emailing justinhyslop@yahoo.co.uk

Let’s shape the future of culture in Dumfries & Galloway together.
