•• Nostalgic Tea Dance launches today! ••

High Tea makes a triumphant theatrical return to its new home at the Loreburn Hall.

A Dumfries & Galloway Afternoon tea party is back after a three year break due to the pandemic, running on Wednesday 19th and Sunday 23rd May between 1pm and 3pm.

Audiences will be treated to old fashioned home baking and perfectly cut sandwiches which will take them back in time to the 1940’s.

The project was first born at the Spiegeltent as part of the Big Burns Supper programme in 2013 and has become a firm favourite with Doonhamers since it began.

The voluntary project, which is run by members of Dumfries Community Choir includes over 35 performers who will entertain guests over a 2-hour period in the old drill hall which will be transformed into a 1940’s Tea Dance.

A packed programme of local acts including Dumfries Swing Band, Dumfries Community Choir, Kenny Hilsley, Dougie Carroll, LOKA and local dance act Jayde and Jenna will

Serve up nostalgic performance alongside a traditional afternoon tea which is carefully crafted by local home-bakers.

Lead volunteer Angie Briggs said,

“This is a great way to spend time with an older person in your life.  Bring them along and give them the space to remember the bygone days.

It is incredible to think what part the Loreburn Hall played in the local dance scene, before and after the war.  Our High Tea project is designed to give space for nostalgia and the theatricality of remembering the sounds, tastes, and sights of the past”.

The bi-monthly project will take place again in June and August with a free slower mid-week edition for residents of care homes who are looking for a social activity to connect them with the wider community.

Graham Main, CEO of Big Burns Supper who run the Loreburn Hall said

We are committed to the social recovery of all our community which is why we need to protect the Loreburn Hall as a community asset that can bring people together.

This project demonstrates how much love there is across our community, and how willing local people are to play their part in transforming Dumfries”

Tickets for High Tea on Sunday 23rd April can be bought here.
