•• Post pandemic prom night at Big Burns Supper ••

21-year-old Cara Vallance from Dumfries, who is now a student at Queen Margaret University is organising an event for young people in Dumfries and Galloway who missed out on their prom night due to the pandemic.

She approached organisers of Big Burns Supper and asked them if she could stage a prom night party where everybody could stick on their prom clothes and relive an important moment for high school leavers. As a result, the event is being created for 18 to 21 year olds who may have missed out on their schools formal leaving celebrations.

“Prom Night Party” is an event that will take place during the 2022 festival, and will include two live music acts, a DJ set, photobooth, hot food, free professional photography, a karaoke room, and an adult bounce castle.

Cara is looking for anyone who wishes to help organise the event, as well as young bands or artists who would like to play in the Spiegeltent during the event, on Thursday 27th January 2022.

The entire Festival Hub and Spiegeltent will play host to the event which includes free photography, voucher for street food and access to the entire festival site.

Trainee Producer, Cara Vallance said;

This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to celebrate with loved ones.  The past two years have been really hard for our young people; from unfair exam results and stress of university or college to name a few.

I remember the stress of the transition years from school; it was incredibly challenging and nerve-wracking.  I can’t imagine the impact the pandemic has had on our young people.  Prom was a night for my year group to celebrate all the hard work we had put in to applying for university, college, and full-time employment.

It was an opportunity to say goodbye and move onto a new chapter. Young people need this experience; the pandemic has stripped a lot people from monumental moments, and this shouldn’t be forgotten. Our young people need to make memories that will stay with them for life, despite it being two years later.”
