Opportunities for secondary schools

Every year we work with nearly 2,000 school pupils across Dumfries & Galloway.   As our team are building and planning our winter programme, we are looking for expressions of interest in the following project areas.

We are looking for expressions from secondary schools to begin a discussion around whether we can work together between September and January.

All of these options are aimed at Secondary level

Digital Animation

We’re looking for pupils who are studying as part of a class or a group who would like to come and work with us on a digital animation project which will be mapped onto the Mausoleum in January. Ideally, we’re looking for a school partner who could commit to at least five sessions which will be delivered between August and November. Pupils do not need to have any experience in this area, and we can provide some flexibility in the way that you enter the project.

From our experience with schools collaborations, this type of project would benefit from longer intense periods of working like day long sessions.  If that is something you could pull off.  Let us know.

Ideally this would be a group of 10-12 pupils who were showing some sort of interest in this area.

Local History

We’re currently looking for a school, class or group who would like to take part in a history project which is based on the history of the Burns Mausoleum. This will be timed alongside a local public engagement campaign which will seek to understand any forms of celebration or memories that people have. Ideally, we would be looking for pupils to become active contributors to the project. We’d like to give them ownership, where possible, to help steer the project with a particular focus on what elements may be included as part of the timeline of events.

Ideally we think this would take the shape of at least 4-5 sessions with us, and there would be scope for some classroom working around this experience.

This would suit a larger cohort or year-group from BGE phase.

Music Technology

We’re currently looking for a school, class or group who would like to host Gary Cameron (our Head of Music) and collaborate with Gary in creating compositions which will feature as part of Northern Lights 2026.

Gary would ideally spend two full days with a group of these pupils to steer them through the creative composition process.  We think that this opportunity would suit a smaller group of 8-10 pupils from the senior phase.

Lantern Making

We are looking for secondary school Art teams who might like to create a whole school lantern with our specialist Jonathon Ben Shaul.  This could be aimed at those at BGE Art & Design and in junior phase.  Working under the theme guidelines, we would give pupils the brief, design with them at first and then work towards the build.  We would aim to deliver four sessions within the current school timeframe.

This option is fairly easy for us to programme in, once we establish which schools are interested in doing this.

All materials are provided by us.
